How to Travel for Less

The thought of getting some time away from work and having a vacation is certainly appealing, but finding the money to be able to make taking the time off feasible isn’t always easy. Most people see travel as being expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. You can find some simple and great ways that you can save when you are traveling.

Travel in the Off Season

If you are traveling when everyone else is traveling, then the costs for goods and services will be higher. It’s a matter of supply and demand. Instead, you should travel during the off-season to find the best deals.

Get a Travel Credit Card

If you are going to have a credit card, you should make sure it is one that offers travel bonuses, such as airline miles. You can use these miles to offset the cost of flying. Every purchase you make goes toward getting you even more miles.

Shop for the Best Hotel Deals

Instead of simply choosing the first hotel or the biggest hotel brand in the area, make sure you are scouring the sites, such as Priceline and Expedia in order to find the best deals on hotels.

Find Free Attractions

While you might want to visit some of the traditional attractions, consider some of the free things you can do in your vacation destination, as well. Free tours can be quite fun, and so could simply spending some time on the beach.

Find Accommodations that Offer Full Kitchens

Another great tip to consider is looking for suites and rooms that have full kitchens. This way, you can shop for groceries when you arrive at your vacation spot and then cook most of your own meals. Consider just how much you would typically spend on meals. If you spent just $20 for breakfast, $20 for lunch, and $30 for dinner for two people – and this is a conservative estimate – then meals for a five-day vacation would cost $350 even before you factor in tips. Having your own kitchen and cooking many of your own meals can save you quite a bit of money.
